It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of Lance Corporal Ryan Francis 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh during a large scale operation in the early hours of the morning, Saturday 7 July 2007.

LCpl Francis was killed when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)detonated, just after midnight local time, against a Warrior patrol in the Tuninah district in the north of Basra.
