Long before I started this blog I communicated the information to various groups including the BNP that MOT tests were to be computerized and vehicle information would be added instantly to the national vehicle database of the PNC. No one ran the story but completely ignored it. Barely a year later it was reality. Now I can tell you that vehicle MOT tests will be monitored on surveillance cameras and recorded as they are carried out step by step and time coded.
MOT stations are already limited to one test per hour per bay so this once lucrative business is now gridlocked meaning the cost of an MOT will have to increase to at least £100 for a standard car to make up for the loss of income.
We live in a free country......Yeah right..

What's a MOT test Colonel ?
Method / Means of transportation ?
What does it encompass ?
I do understand the move today is about control and monitoring .
Monitoring of ... ?
An MOT test is a certificate of road worthiness which has to be renewed every year. It is a legal requirement for all road vehicles over 3 years old and carries severe penalties for not having one. The test comprises of a stingent mechanical examination of the vehicle. You have to pay for it obviously, the bulk of the fee goes to the govermment with a commision paid to the garage that conducts the test.
It was a good idea when it was introduced but now it is just another form of rigidly enforced taxation. As with all taxation those least able to pay such as the poor and elderly that can only afford an older car are worst hit.
Thanks for that info .
We have yearly inspection of all vehicles here , but I've never heard of video taping it !
Yep , yer right - always about more money . I wonder how folks make it anymore .
They tried to get a bill passed here a few years back , doing away with auto parts supply stores ... for the do - it - yerselfer's . Only licensed dealers were to exist ( never heard no more of it though ).
